Best Dish Soap Value in Canada (August 2026 Comparison)

Dish soap comes in many bottle sizes, formulas, scents, and concentration levels. A small bottle may cost less at checkout, while a large refill bottle can provide much better value over time.

We compared current Canadian prices using the cost per 100 mL. We also examined whether ordering a large bottle through Amazon.ca’s Subscribe & Save program could reduce the cost of this frequently purchased household product.

Prices were checked online on August 6, 2026, using selected British Columbia locations. Prices, promotions, subscriptions, and availability may change.

What We Compared

For the main value comparison, we focused on regular liquid dish soap intended for handwashing dishes.

Because package sizes vary considerably, we calculated the price per 100 mL. We included both standard bottles and bulk or refill-sized containers.

The products are not identical in concentration, scent, ingredients, or cleaning performance. Unit price is therefore an important starting point, but it should not be the only consideration.

Real Canadian Superstore currently provides the lowest calculated unit price at approximately $0.21 per 100 mL. Its 4.27 L Palmolive bottle was listed at $8.99, reduced from $10.99. 

Walmart’s five-litre Great Value bottle works out to approximately $0.22 per 100 mL, although it was shown as out of stock online when checked. 

Amazon.ca listed the 4.27 L Palmolive bottle at $10.47 as a one-time purchase. A displayed 5% Subscribe & Save discount would reduce the price to approximately $9.95, or about $0.23 per 100 mL. 

Best Overall Value

Real Canadian Superstore currently offers the lowest unit price in this comparison.

The 4.27 L Palmolive Essential Clean bottle was listed at $8.99, which works out to approximately $0.21 per 100 mL.

This result is based on a temporary sale price. At the listed regular price of $10.99, the same bottle would cost approximately $0.26 per 100 mL.

That means the current Superstore sale beats both Amazon’s one-time price and Amazon’s displayed 5% subscription price. Once the Superstore promotion ends, Amazon Subscribe & Save could become the lower-priced option.

Lowest Upfront Price

Safeway has the lowest amount to pay at checkout at $3.29 for an 800 mL bottle of Compliments dishwashing liquid.

That works out to approximately $0.41 per 100 mL. Although the bottle costs less upfront, its unit price is almost twice the current Superstore bulk-bottle price. 

A smaller bottle may still be the more practical choice for households with limited storage space or those that use dish soap slowly.

Amazon Subscribe & Save Tip

Dish soap is well suited to automatic delivery because it is a repeat-use product that many households purchase throughout the year.

Amazon.ca currently lists a 4.27 L bottle of Palmolive Essential Clean dish soap for $10.47 as a one-time purchase. The displayed 5% Subscribe & Save option reduces that price to approximately $9.95. 

That works out to:

• One-time purchase: approximately $0.25 per 100 mL
• Subscribe & Save: approximately $0.23 per 100 mL
• Saving per bottle: approximately $0.52

Amazon says eligible Subscribe & Save products can receive discounts, deliveries can be scheduled, and subscriptions may be cancelled. However, the product price and discount can change before future deliveries. 

Before each shipment:

• Check the upcoming price
• Compare it with current grocery-store sales
• Confirm that you actually need another bottle
• Skip, delay, or cancel deliveries when necessary
• Avoid accumulating more product than your household can use

Subscribe & Save is most useful when the subscription price remains competitive and the delivery schedule matches the household’s actual usage.

Could a Higher Amazon Subscription Discount Save More?

Amazon advertises savings of up to 15% when enough eligible Subscribe & Save products arrive in the same month at one address. Eligibility and discount amounts vary by product and order. 

At 15% off, a $10.47 bottle would cost approximately $8.90, or about $0.21 per 100 mL.

That would be roughly equal to the current Superstore sale price. However, shoppers should not assume that every item will qualify for the maximum discount. The actual discount shown at checkout is the one that matters.

Costco Bulk-Bottle Comparison

Costco Same-Day currently lists a 4.27 L bottle of Palmolive Advanced dish liquid at $11.34, or approximately $0.27 per 100 mL. 

This is higher than:

• Superstore’s current sale price
• Walmart’s listed five-litre price
• Amazon’s one-time price
• Amazon’s displayed 5% subscription price

Costco’s Same-Day price may be higher than the warehouse shelf price, and a membership is required. Shoppers who already visit Costco should check the warehouse price before deciding.

Standard Bottle Versus Bulk Bottle

Buying a large bottle can substantially reduce the unit price.

For example:

• Safeway’s 800 mL Compliments bottle: approximately $0.41 per 100 mL
• Superstore’s 4.27 L Palmolive sale bottle: approximately $0.21 per 100 mL

At those prices, the smaller bottle costs approximately $0.20 more per 100 mL.

Across 4.27 litres, that difference would equal approximately $8.54. However, buying in bulk only makes sense when the product will be used and there is space to store it.

Does Concentration Affect the Comparison?

Two dish soaps with the same volume may not provide the same number of washes.

A concentrated formula may require less soap per sink of dishes than a thinner formula. A product that costs more per 100 mL could therefore still provide reasonable practical value if less is needed each time.

Unfortunately, manufacturers do not always provide a consistent number of recommended washes per bottle. This makes an exact cost-per-use comparison difficult.

Use price per 100 mL as a guide, while also considering:

• Concentration
• Grease-cutting ability
• Amount used per wash
• Skin sensitivity
• Fragrance preferences
• Whether the soap rinses cleanly

Are Store Brands Always Cheaper?

Store brands often provide strong value, but they are not automatically the least expensive choice.

Walmart’s five-litre Great Value bottle has a low listed unit price of approximately $0.22 per 100 mL. However, Superstore’s current sale on Palmolive is slightly lower at approximately $0.21 per 100 mL.

Safeway’s Compliments bottle costs less at checkout but has a higher unit price because it is much smaller.

The most reliable approach is to calculate the price per 100 mL rather than choosing based only on brand or package price.

What About Small-Bottle Sales?

Small bottles can sometimes provide excellent value during promotions.

Walmart currently lists certain 828 mL Palmolive Essential Clean bottles at $3.27, or approximately $0.39 per 100 mL. A displayed 10% subscription option would reduce the price to approximately $2.94, or about $0.36 per 100 mL. 

That is still more expensive per 100 mL than the large-bottle options in the main table, but it may suit households that do not want a four- or five-litre container.

Tips for Paying Less for Dish Soap

• Compare prices using the cost per 100 mL.
• Check both standard bottles and large refill containers.
• Compare store brands with national brands.
• Watch for temporary sales on large bottles.
• Check Amazon Subscribe & Save for frequently repurchased products.
• Review the Amazon price before every automatic delivery.
• Skip or cancel shipments when supplies are building up.
• Compare Costco Same-Day pricing with the warehouse price.
• Refill a smaller bottle from a large jug for easier daily use.

Is the Largest Bottle Always the Best Deal?

No. A large bottle provides better value only when its unit price is lower and the household will use it.

Large containers can be heavy and awkward to use directly. Pouring the soap into a smaller reusable bottle can make the bulk option more practical.

A smaller bottle may still be preferable when:

The difference between Amazon’s one-time price and displayed 5% subscription price is smaller—approximately $0.52 per 4.27 L bottle—but the convenience may be valuable for households that would otherwise forget to restock.

Actual savings depend on changing prices, the amount used, delivery discounts, and whether the automatic shipment prevents an unnecessary higher-priced purchase.

For the selected prices checked, Real Canadian Superstore currently offers the lowest calculated price at approximately $0.21 per 100 mL for a 4.27 L bottle of Palmolive Essential Clean dish liquid.

Walmart’s five-litre Great Value bottle is close behind at approximately $0.22 per 100 mL, but it was shown as unavailable online when checked.

Amazon.ca’s 4.27 L Palmolive bottle works out to approximately $0.25 per 100 mL as a one-time purchase or approximately $0.23 per 100 mL with the displayed 5% Subscribe & Save discount.

Amazon Subscribe & Save is therefore a competitive and convenient option, particularly when grocery-store bulk bottles are not on sale. Shoppers should still review the price before each automatic shipment because Amazon prices and discounts can change.

Costco Same-Day costs approximately $0.27 per 100 mL, Safeway’s smaller bottle costs approximately $0.41 per 100 mL, and Save-On-Foods’ regular smaller-bottle price is approximately $0.66 per 100 mL.

The best strategy is to compare the current unit price, buy a large bottle when it offers genuine savings, and use automatic delivery only when the scheduled purchase is still needed and competitively priced.
