Best Paper Towel Value in Canada (August 2026 Comparison)

Paper towel packages can be surprisingly difficult to compare. Retailers and manufacturers use descriptions such as double rolls, triple rolls, jumbo rolls, and “equal to” roll counts, but these terms are not standardized.

We compared current prices and calculated the cost per 100 sheets to find which package provides the best value.

Prices were checked online on August 6, 2026, using selected British Columbia store locations. Prices, promotions, and availability may vary.

What We Compared

To keep the comparison reasonably fair, we looked at two-ply paper towels sold in multi-roll packages at major Canadian grocery retailers.

Package sizes and sheet counts differ, so the price per physical roll can be misleading. We used the total number of sheets in each package and calculated the price per 100 sheets.

The products are not identical in thickness, absorbency, or sheet size, but they represent comparable everyday paper towel options.

Walmart’s package contains 630 sheets in total, while the Superstore package contains 540 sheets. Although Superstore has the lowest package price, Walmart currently has the slightly lower calculated cost per 100 sheets.

Safeway’s Royale package was listed at $18.99, reduced from $21.99. The Save-On-Foods Bounty package was listed at $20.79 but showed as out of stock at the selected location when checked. 

Best Overall Value

Walmart currently provides the lowest calculated unit price in this comparison.

The Great Value ECO package costs $7.94 and contains six rolls with 105 sheets per roll. That gives the package 630 sheets in total and a calculated cost of approximately $1.26 per 100 sheets. 

Real Canadian Superstore is very close behind at approximately $1.30 per 100 sheets.

The difference between the Walmart and Superstore options is only about four cents per 100 sheets, so either package represents considerably better value than the higher-priced national-brand options in this comparison.

Lowest Upfront Price

Real Canadian Superstore has the lowest package price at $7.00 for six No Name double rolls.

Each roll contains 90 half sheets, giving the package 540 sheets in total. The calculated cost is approximately $1.30 per 100 sheets. 

This package may be the most practical choice for shoppers who want to spend the least at checkout while still receiving a competitive unit price.

Why Roll Descriptions Can Be Misleading

Terms such as double roll, triple roll, jumbo roll, and family roll are marketing descriptions rather than consistent measurements.

One company’s double roll may contain fewer sheets than another company’s double roll. The “equal to” number printed on a package may also be based on the manufacturer’s own smaller reference roll.

For a more reliable comparison, check:

• The number of physical rolls
• The number of sheets per roll
• The total number of sheets
• The number of plies
• The total package price
• The price per 100 sheets

Does Sheet Size Matter?

Some paper towel packages contain full-size sheets, while others use select-a-size or half sheets.

A package with more sheets may not necessarily contain more paper if its individual sheets are smaller. However, select-a-size towels can reduce waste because households can use a smaller section for minor spills.

The price per 100 sheets is useful, but sheet dimensions, thickness, and absorbency should also be considered when comparing quality.

Store Brands Versus National Brands

Store-brand paper towels often have a lower unit price than major national brands.

In this comparison, Walmart’s Great Value and Superstore’s No Name packages cost much less per 100 sheets than the Royale and Bounty products.

Is the Largest Package Always the Best Deal?

A larger package is not automatically the cheapest option.

Bottom Line

For the selected BC locations checked, Walmart currently provides the lowest calculated price at approximately $1.26 per 100 sheets for its six-roll Great Value ECO package.

Real Canadian Superstore is extremely close at approximately $1.30 per 100 sheets and has the lowest upfront package price at $7.00.

Safeway works out to approximately $3.23 per 100 sheets for the Royale package, while the Save-On-Foods Bounty listing works out to approximately $3.85 per 100 sheets and was shown as out of stock at the selected location.

The most reliable way to compare paper towels is to ignore promotional roll descriptions and calculate the unit price using the actual number of sheets.
