What We Compared
To make the comparison fair, we looked at two-ply toilet paper sold by major Canadian grocery retailers.

Calculating the unit cost shows that it currently provides the lowest price per 1,000 sheets. Walmart’s smaller Royale package has the lowest upfront cost. Retailer listings show Superstore’s 24-roll package contains 363 sheets per roll, Walmart’s Royale package contains 242 sheets per roll, Save-On-Foods’ Western Family package contains 242 sheets per roll, and Safeway’s Best Buy package contains 363 sheets per roll.

Real Canadian Superstore currently offers the lowest calculated unit price in this comparison.
The No Name package costs $16.00 and contains 24 triple rolls with 363 sheets per roll. That works out to approximately $1.84 per 1,000 sheets.
Although the package costs more at checkout, it contains 8,712 sheets in total. This makes it a better unit-price value than the smaller packages included in the comparison.
Lowest Upfront Price
Walmart currently has the lowest package price at $6.17 for 12 rolls of Royale Original toilet paper.
Each roll contains 242 sheets, giving the package 2,904 sheets in total. The calculated cost is approximately $2.12 per 1,000 sheets.
This may be the most practical option for shoppers who want to spend less at one time or do not have room to store a large package.
Why Roll Counts Can Be Misleading
Terms such as double roll, triple roll, family roll, and mega roll are marketing descriptions rather than consistent measurements.
One brand’s triple roll may contain a different number of sheets than another brand’s triple roll. The “equal to” number printed on a package can also be based on a manufacturer’s smaller reference roll rather than a standard roll used by every company.
For a more useful comparison, look at:
